What’s more Coachella than a truly vintage, traditional Kimono? This is the first of my Everly Darling series from Coachella, where I was style FOUR amazing garments from my favorite Kimono line.
What makes these Kimonos stand out from your regular department store find, is the rich history and story behind each piece. I love that the owner, Carmen, sources them from all over Asia, spanning various cultural and economic affiliations. Perhaps a great council woman wore yours in the 20’s, an aristocrat in the 30’s or maybe it was someone’s most prized garment… their Sunday best of sorts. I like to tell myself all kinds of romantic stories!
Each Kimono from Everly Darling is professional repurposed and updated to preserve as much of the original art work and detail. Most of these are hand died and some even have detailed, hand stitching when you look closely. I wanted mine hemmed a bit since I am so petite, but tried to keep as much length as possible and kept the darling ties on the back, which would have originally tied to the front to keep it closed.
You can shop more of my faves on her site, like this Purple Silk Kimono and Pink Japanese Silk Haori Blazer on the site. Or follow their Everyly Darling Instagram for the latest pieces to hit the site! I’ll be hosting a giveaway of one of my FAVES too, so stay tuned!
